In a few days I will finish reading the book from which I took the inspiration to write this post. The book is ‘Heroic Living: Discover Your Purpose and Change the World’ by Chris Lowney. I’ll start with a quote from page 201 that got me thinking.
The quote is from the Polish version of the book, so I have translated it into English. Here it is: “We cannot achieve our purpose in the world without taking risks and without making choices. Our purpose, vision and values can be our enduring beacons that guide us through life, or ‘the port to which we are headed’, as Seneca put it. However, talents, circumstances, resources and interests will change over the course of
a lifetime with the changing world in which we live.”
If we have a goal, a goal that is so impressive that we don’t tell anyone about it, then to achieve it we have to take risks, and maybe many times. We also have to make choices. In our current world, there are so many paths to success and so many opportunities. All we have to do is look around and dare to dream, to dream about goals, about the good we can give to other people, to dream that in 5 or 10 years we will be in a completely different life situation, because we can already imagine who we want to be in 5 or 10 years. Our situation (present or future) depends very much on whether we dare to take on tasks that have the potential to get us where we want to go.
As Chris Downey writes: “Our purpose, vision and values can be our enduring beacons that guide us through life…” I totally agree with this idea, I have my goals, I have my vision, I have my values. I totally agree with this idea, I have my goals, I have my vision, I have my values.
I thank God that I have them, I see what can happen to me in the future. One of my goals is to give good to other people, to share my life experiences; my vision of future life gives me energy to act; values like truth, honesty, goodness, beauty, freedom are my compass on the way to my goals.
Chris Lowney’s book is an inspiration, a mine of positive thoughts and ideas for living wisely, a life full of reflection on one’s path.
