Lo sviluppo spirituale: avvertenze per la vita spirituale (Thomas A Kempis)

Today I would like to share some quotes from the book written by Thomas A Kempis; the title of this book is “Imitation of Christ”. Several of the cautions are from Book One.
Oggi vorrei condividere alcune citazioni tratte da un libro scritto da Thomas A Kempis; il titolo di questo libro è “L’Imitazione di Cristo”. Molte delle avvertenze provengono dal Libro Primo.
Here are some quotes (the translation is from Polish)
“Chapter 1. On following Christ and despising all the vanities of the world.
- “He who follows me does not walk in darkness” (Jn 8:12), says the Lord. These are the words of Christ with which he encourages us to imitate his life and customs if we truly wish to be enlightened and free from all blindness of heart. Our most important exercise, therefore, should be to meditate on the life of Jesus Christ.“

“Capitolo 1. Seguire Cristo e disprezzare tutte le vanità del mondo.
- “Chi segue me non cammina nelle tenebre” (Gv 8,12), dice il Signore. Queste sono le parole di Cristo con cui ci incoraggia a imitare la sua vita e i suoi costumi, se vogliamo davvero essere illuminati e liberati da ogni cecità di cuore. Il nostro esercizio più importante, quindi, dovrebbe essere quello di meditare sulla vita di Gesù Cristo”.
The life of Jesus Christ on Earth was to serve man, to point to the goal of our earthly pilgrimage – Heaven; let us live as if today were the last day of our lives, give good and avoid evil and ask Jesus to guide us.
La vita di Gesù Cristo era al servizio dell’uomo, per indicare la meta del nostro pellegrinaggio terreno: il Paradiso; viviamo come se oggi fosse l’ultimo giorno della nostra vita, doniamo il bene ed evitiamo il male e chiediamo a Gesù di guidarci.
