“L’assenza di Dio è la più grande menzogna che possiamo immaginare”. (Rev. Jerzy Szymik)

On page 74 of the Polish weekly ‘Niedziela’ (issue of 12 February 2023), there is a column by Father Jerzy Szymik, a theologian and poet. Here is an excerpt from it: “Departure from the objectivity of truth and departure from God are at some level the same thing. For God is truth, because He dwells in it. (…) The Lord of existence, the Creator of life and being. Godlessness is the greatest lie we can imagine.”
A pagina 74 del settimanale polacco “Niedziela” (numero del 12 febbraio 2023), c’è una rubrica di padre Jerzy Szymik, teologo e poeta. Eccone un estratto: “L’allontanamento dall’oggettività della verità e l’allontanamento da Dio sono in qualche modo la stessa cosa. Dio è verità, perché abita in essa. (…) Il Signore dell’esistenza, il Creatore della vita e dell’essere. L’empietà è la più grande menzogna che possiamo immaginare”.
What do we have without God, what do we have when we negate the existence of God? We are left with emptiness and great question marks. Why is it that there are so many people out there who have no need to pray, no need to attend Mass? I am thinking here of those who as children took over the faith from their parents and now have no need of the Catholic Church. God loves each of us and wants to bring each of us to Himself, to the afterlife, to Heaven.
Cosa abbiamo senza Dio, cosa abbiamo quando neghiamo l’esistenza di Dio? Rimangono il vuoto e i grandi punti interrogativi. Perché ci sono così tante persone che non hanno bisogno di pregare, né di partecipare alla Messa? Mi riferisco a coloro che da bambini hanno preso in consegna la fede dai loro genitori e ora non hanno più bisogno della Chiesa cattolica. Dio ama ciascuno di noi e vuole portare ciascuno di noi a sé, nell’aldilà, nella vita ultraterrena.
Fr Szymik also writes that people try to build a life without God, and sometimes even against God. And such attempts are, according to the aforementioned priest, “a tragedy on the scale of the Flood”. I agree with this and for me it is obvious, I need the Mass because it is God who instituted it and gave us humans the Sacrament of the Eucharist to draw from. That’s all for today.
Padre Szymik scrive anche che le persone cercano di costruire una vita senza Dio, e a volte persino contro Dio. E tali tentativi sono, secondo il suddetto sacerdote, “una tragedia della portata del Diluvio”. Sono d’accordo e per me è ovvio, ho bisogno della Messa perché è Dio che l’ha istituita e ha dato a noi uomini il sacramento dell’Eucaristia a cui attingere. Questo per quanto riguarda la giornata di oggi.
